Test Taking Tips
There are several ways that students can prepare for upcoming tests. One of the most common reason for poor test preparation is that students do not prepare early enough or reveiw the material sufficiently. Below are some useful test taking tips:
Prepare Early - begin reveiwing the material one week or more prior to the scheduled test. As the test approaches, you will be able to focus your efforts on the topics that you are struggling with. Be sure to review all notes, quizzes, class assignments and reading material.
Review the material multiple times - do not expect to get a good grade by "cramming" for a test the night before. Studies have found that students are better able to comprehend and recall information that they are exposed to several times. Therefore, it is better to study more frequently, but in shorter sessions, than to cram the night before a test.
Use a variety of techniques to thoroughly understand the material - there are several different ways to study. A technique that is effective for one student may not be best for another. It is imperative that students utilize techniques that work best for them.
